Infertility: Couples Need to See Fertility Specialist Sooner Says Experts
Couples who are struggling with infertility often find it difficult to cope with the situation that they are facing. As infertility is a private matter to human lives and they don’t want it to discuss among family, friends and its peers. Most infertile couples remain isolated as instead of getting some real suggestions, they are being asked questions like ‘who is at the fault.’ This is the worrying thing that these couples suffer from.
Thanks to the advancement in the medical technology particularly in assisted reproduction, nowadays childless couples have number of options to get treatment such as in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination. According to studies, more than five million babies have been born since IVF was introduced in the world in 1978 with the first baby named as Lousie Brown.
The fertility experts believe that the best thing to get treatment is to consult the doctor sooner. “Couples who are under 35 and have been trying to conceive for more than 12 months need to see a fertility specialist. Patients over 35 who have trying to conceive for more than 6 months must see a fertility specialist. There are many causes of infertility. You need to see a specialist to get a proper fertility workout to understand what the cause is and to get the proper treatment,” says Dr. Rita Bakshi, who runs India’s largest network of IVF clinics under the brand name International Fertility Centre.
Dr. Rita Bakshi said that assisted reproductive techniques have helped thousands of couples to explore the chances of conception and “in India, the technology is cost-effective and up to the mark.”
Couples should also know the infertility problems before heading for in vitro fertilization as some infertility issues can be solved with drug treatments and surgery. However, IVF is recommended for the couples if the other options have been unable to help. During the IVF treatment, the egg or ovum of the female partner is removed surgically and the sperm collected is mixed in the petri dish in the laboratory and after two to three days, the embryo are then transferred back into the woman’s uterus.
If the male partner has low sperm count in its semen sample, then an advanced form of IVF procedure called ICSI is used to collect the healthy sperm.
